Sports Marketing and Entertainment (SEM) is an interdisciplinary minor that provides students with foundational and practical knowledge to pursue a career in sports and entertainment. Courses are derived from the fields of marketing, management, and communication to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the sports and entertainment industry. Designed for students interested in careers related to sports marketing, event planning, media and content creation, and sponsorship management, this minor leverages courses from both the Delaplaine School of Business and the Department of Communication Arts.
The minor consists of six courses (18 credits): five required and one elective. Students will be required to take courses in marketing, sales, economics, and communications arts, as well as an optional internship that offers hands-on experience with local sports and entertainment organizations.
This minor is open to all majors and can generally be completed within two years. Depending on the major, some prerequisites may be needed to enroll in some of the required minor classes. The Sports and Entertainment Marketing Minor offers prospective students an opportunity to gain a well-rounded, industry-focused education that combines the fields of marketing and entertainment. The minor equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills that are directly applicable to building a career in sports and entertainment marketing. Courses cover key areas such as marketing, event planning, digital communication, and the economics of sports, giving students a competitive edge in a dynamic industry.
Students should declare the minor around the time of major declaration.
