AFAR 259 Art of African and the Diaspora

The course introduces a diverse range of art, architecture, and material culture produced by cultures across the continent of Africa and explores the artistic heritages of Africans and their
descendants in the Americas. Beginning with an overview of African art from antiquity to the present, linkages between African and Diasporan artistic production will be explored and consideration given to the construction of “black” identity in African-American art of the 20th century.
