PE 141 African Dance

Examine the influence and contributions of African Americans in the development of various dance genres in the United States and around the world. Focal point placed on selected artists including Arthur Mitchell, Misty Copland, Josephine Baker, Janet Collins, Gregory Hines, Nicholas Brothers, Savion Glover, Alvin Ailey, Katherine Dunham, Debbie Allen, and the Jacksons to name a few. Understanding artist’s philosophies in the styles of ballet, tap, jazz, modern, musical theatre, pop culture, and film. Grading is on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis.
